BSA Troop 777 Summer Camp 2012! Acadia National Park!

Every year, our Scout troop does a summer camp that is rather unconventional. We have gone to Gettysburg, Washington D.C., done 50 mile hikes, 50 mile canoe trips, 150 mile bike rides and others. This year, we went wild and went to Acadia National Park in Down East Maine. We left on the 15th, the day after my birthday, and came home last Sunday, the 21st. Our goal was to do the Cycling Merit Badge and to do about 80 miles of biking, to improve our camp skills like washing dishes, setting up camp in a fast manner, along with going white water rafting at the end of the week.

After we set up camp, we went for a hike up a small mountain. It was a really nice hike.

Monday, we did a 17 mile bike ride on some carriage roads that are only usable by horses, bikes and foot traffic.

I taped a tape recorder to my bike so I could record and bike at the same time.

We stopped at the bottom of this cool cliff.

Monday night, we went to the Ocean and climbed around on the rocks. The sea fog was really thick so we had no view at all.
I took a picture of myself.

Tuesday, we did a 25 mile bike ride on the "Park Loop Road." It is a paved, one way road that goes by all the major sites in Acadia. It is nice because the road is two lane; one for the cars the other for the bikes!
This was taken a Schooner Head Overlook. We stopped and had lunch here and where able to see a little bit of the ocean.

There was a cave at the overlook. We were not able to go in because the tide was in.

Biking: Part 2

Ok, I know I said that I would post on the bike ride I did.
Last Thursday, I went bike riding with my friends Nick, Mason and Ben. We are training for our summer camp bike rides. We biked 14 miles on the roads around Mason's house. We had a great time. We raced a couple of times and I think we probably broke the speed limit a couple of times, but who cares, right? At one point, we stopped and waded in a river that went under part of the road. The water was really nice and refreshing after biking. When we got back, we ran a mile,did some push-ups and pull-ups and beat each other up.

I really had a lot of fun.
