Early Spring
"Early spring, early spring,"
The morning frost has started to ring.
Warmth, and sunshine, and sweet gentle rain,
Will hearken once more to creation's refrain.
A quiet whisper the warm winds bring;
“Early spring, early spring.”
The season’s chill has begun to break.
Now begins the work with spade and rake.
Little shoots and sprouts of green,
Under Autumn’s leaves are seen.
Crocuses and Snowdrops sing,
"Early spring, early spring."
Across the land the color returns.
Across the land a cry is heard.
The sound of water rushing down
To its sweet reunion with the ground.
Out of the valley comes the river’s loud cry;
“Spring is nigh, spring is nigh!”
There is a flutter of wings as the do birds fly.
They teach their young fledglings to take to the sky.
A twitter, a cheap, a glorious song,
Emerges from the breast of this joyous throng.
The call is spread from sky to sky;
“Spring is nigh, spring is nigh!”
A gentle drip does slowly wake
The creatures that do hibernate.
Returns the sound of life’s rebirth
As droplet falls from leaf to earth.
Silently calls the new born fawn;
“Winter’s gone, winter’s gone.”
Of goose and duck; of water bird.
It echoes down from their great height;
It echoes down both day and night.
In flight they call, though journey long;
“Winter’s gone, winter’s gone!”
The dew has risen from the ground.
The grass and fields make a joyful sound.
Each tiny form of liquid glass
Waters the growing plants and grass.
A tinkling voice says
from each crystal sphere;
“Spring is here! Spring is here!”
Across the land there comes a cry.
From meadow to mountain, from river to sky.
The cry of water, plant and tree;
The call of a sparrow, the hum of a bee.
For all of creation sings out with great cheer;
“Spring is here! Spring is here!”

So, Just What Can Fit In An Altoids Can???
That is a lot of stuff to put in an Altoids Can, but it all fits!
It can be a lot of fun putting together a survival kit!
Have any ideas? I would love to hear them!
| Altoids Can |
One thing that I like to do is make Survival Kits to take with me on hikes, bike rides, campouts and any other adventure that I might have. One thing that I found works good to use for a survival kit is Altoids cans. They're small, light weight, and, believe or not, they can hold a lot of things!
Here is the list of things that I put in my Altoids can survival kit!
- A book of matches
- A small pocket Bible
- A pencil
- Two chicken bullion cubes
- Fishing line, hooks and sinkers
- A roll of Cap Gun caps
- Three Band-Aids
- A paper clip
- A sugar packet
- A piece of paper
- Four saftey pins
- A rubber band
- A cardboard fire starter
- A razer blade
- 10 dollars
- Wire
- Twine
- A 12"x14" sheet of tin foil
- and three 6" peices of Duck Tape

Go Fish!!!!!
This past Friday and Saturday, a few of us from my boy scout troop went on a "Fishing Campout". It was a blast! A friend of our assistant scoutmaster let us campout on his property. It was a really nice place to camp, right near the water. We had to get up at four in the morning on Saturday so we could start fishing right away. Some people started fishing a 2:00 am. That's what I call extreme!!!!!!
We cought about 30 fish and kept 19.
We knew it was going to rain on Saturday, and we did get some rain, but we also got an inch of snow!!!!! We had a lot of fun. And thanks to Mr. B. for taking these great pictures!
